Chrysler Repair: 95 lebaron 3.0 headlights stay on, headlight switch, headlights wont turn off

Question
QUESTION: Hi Roland, hope you can help.  I'm currently working on a '95 Lebaron convertible.  The Headlights stay on when the key is in the off position.  If I turn the key on the headlights will shut off and all will be fine.   They will continue to work as normal.   I've tried removing the headlight switch, they still stay on.  An ideas as to where I can start in my diagnostics on this problem?  this problem just recently started happening.  Thanks -Paul

ANSWER: Hi Paul,
I believe this may have something to do with a timer that leaves the headlamps on for some number of seconds after you turn off the vechile, as a courtesy, though I don't have the owners manual about it specifically. That timer may be faulty. It looks to be in the body computer. There are two orange/white wires on pins 21 and 20 of the natural plug of that computer that go to the headlamp relay pin 13, along with the same color wire from the headlamp switch. I imagine that those two wires are staying grounded (which activates the relay) instead of it turning off after a few minutes. Have you waited long enough for the timer to time out the lamps? If not, then maybe if you just cut the two from computer then the headlamps would just work normally.
Let me know what you find via the "thank and rate" tab which has a space for comments.

QUESTION: Thanks Roland.  I have waited long enough for them to turn off, in fact we are constantly removing the battery ground to get them off.  I don't really need those lights and all else seems to work fine.  So I'm assuming I can just cut those wires?   Can you tell me where the body computer is located on this car?  And, Are the body computers the same for a like year lebaron convertible?  In case I just decide to pick one up a salvage yard.  Thanks again.

Answer
Hi Paul,
The body computer is located on right side cowl panel, the area below the dash just in front of the passenger door opening, specifically right in front of the lower corner of the door opening. You remove the cowl trim and door opening scuff plate to get to the trim panel that covers it up.
You find that it has two plugs and the orange/white are on pins 20 and 21 of the natural color plug. I see in another body computer manual that pin 20 is the one for the time delay function. So cut 20 first and see if that solves it.
I believe that pin 21 wire is a sense function that notes when the relay is closed and causes the chiming if you turn off the ignition but leave the headlights on.  Just cut the pin 20 wire at a spot where if necessary you could reconnect it later if need be. I believe there is only one body computer for the '95 model year (and '94's may also work).
Please let me know how it works out.
