Question
1988 lebaron stalled out on the way home.engine cranks no start.coil, distributor cap and rotor replaced about 2 weeks ago.checked for fault codes key on key off key on method.got codes 11,12 & 55.also fuel pump is not engaging when turn key.will the code 11 not ingnition signal detect also shutdown the fuel pump.and will replacing the ignition pickup under the distributor cap fix the problem or are they two seperate problems.

Answer
Hi Rick,
The 11 code remediation, the distributor pick-up unit, should restore the spark and the fuel pump as both require a pick-up signal which energizes the autoshutdown relay. But if the pump doesn't make a sound for 1 second when you first turn the key to "run" (which it should) then it would either be one of the fusible links in the multi-link harness behind the battery (one of the red ones that supplies current to the autoshutdown relay which powers the spark coil and the pump), the autoshutdown relay itself, of if you have spark but no pump then it would make me suspect the pump. But, the fact that you shutdown and now have 11 makes me believe the pick-up replacement will solve it. It is unlikely to have any of those separate components fail at the same time.
