Chrysler Repair: Trunk Release Problem:Cirrus, Stratrus, Breeze, plymouth breeze, body control module

Question
1998 Plymouth Breeze, in car trunk release next to drivers seat stopped working. Appears to be electronic rather than a cable. I do not see a fuse that is listed for Trunk Release, but all other electronics are working.  How can this be fixed ?

Answer
Hi John,
Neither the Haynes ('95-00) nor the Chrysler ('96) manuals that I have show this to be electronic, rather it shows a cable system. Check at the trunk latch to observe the release mechanism there.
However, the '99 LH and the '03 Sebring manuals do show such a solenoid system to release the trunk. The system is mediated by the body control module, and appears to rely upon a function ignition off draw fuse (which operates the interior lights, and door locks for example) or by another power source to the body computer. One wire for the switch and for the solenoid is black/white in both vehicles so check in the rear for such a latch solenoid and for a similar wire at the switch. Then tell me the color of the other wire at the switch and the solenoid and we may be able to figure this out.
The '98 Sebring manual shows a decklid release relay in the power distribution box under the hood, and different color wires, etc. So we need to figure out which set up is use in your Breeze if that is the case.
