Chrysler Repair: transmission power flush, power flush, recommended maintenance

Question
I have a 1999 300m with 66,000 miles. I plan on keeping the car so I'm considering the chrysler recommended 'power flush' on the trans (which is working perfectly). I have read that the procedure could do more harm than good! what is your opinion?

Answer
Hi Mike,
I don't have any experience or data on the benefits of such. I would be inclined to smell and look at the fluid for any hint of burning/overheating residues. Absent any such signs, my inclination is to leave well enough alone. If however you did a lot of stop and go driving as opposed to mainly freeway/highway driving then it would make more sense to do this recommended maintenance. It open a can of worms when letting anyone service these very expensive to repair units for fear of some sort of mistake. Those are my thoughts. If you have some shop you really trust, you get the ATF +4 fluid, the present fluid smell or looks compromised or you do a lot of shifting, then go ahead. Otherwise I wouldn't.
