Chrysler Repair: Neon 2.0L 16V Automatic: idle rpm too low, neon 2, throttle plate

Question
I have a 2000 Neon and have just changed a quite dirty air filter, and now find the car is cutting out on idle. How can I adjust the idle speed, as it is trying to idle at 500 rpm?

Answer
Hi Barry,
The idle speed is controlled automatically by the engine computer which reads the rpm and adjusts the by-pass air pathway on the throat sidewall of the throttle body. My first suggestion would be to remove the air cleaner housing to get access to the throttle body. Then using solvent and some q-tips clean the throat of the body, both sides of the throttle plate, and the side air passageway thru which idle air is admitted to the intake manifold. It could be that will solve the idle. If not, write back and tell me.
