Chrysler Repair: check engine light: code 0703?, chrysler sebring lxi, 1998 chrysler sebring lxi

Question
QUESTION: I have a 1998 Chrysler Sebring LXi, V-6 automatic car with 130k miles. I am the only owner. No major problems, just had to replace the idler pulley. Time for state inspection but the check engine light is on. When the mechanic pulled the code he got P70something, "faulty brake circuit". Any ideas? No one I have spoken to has a clue. Thanks.

ANSWER: The only code I can find like that is "0703 Faulty brake switch performance:incorrect input state detected in the brake switch circuit (was 1595)". I believe this is related to the brake fluid pressure warning switch in the brake system being stuck open or closed.

QUESTION: Is the brake fluid pressure warning switch located somewhere on the master cylinder on the engine side of the firewall? Thanks for the quick response!!

Answer
Hi Steve,
Correction: This is not a brake pressure switch fault code. This circuit is evidentally related to the mechanical switch on the brake pedal that operates the brake lights and thru separate sections also tells the engine controller that the brakes have been applied and also the cruise control, so check that switch and its wiring. The white/red wire at pin 1 of the switch is supposed to be connected to pin 62 at one of the two plugs at the engine controller and the black wire on pin 2 of the switch is its grounding wire, when the switch is activated. Either the switch is not working or the wires are not connected as they should be (to pin 62 or ground). The ec uses the input to regulate the idle speed when braking.
