Chrysler Repair: P0442, evaporation system, postal mail

I have had the service engine light come on in my 1998 grand voyager and had it tested and a code came up of PO442.
What should I check for first and then the next.
My wife also said the car jumped while driving. I have not had that problem.

Hi George,
It means a small leak in the gas evaporation system has been detected. It can be caused often by a loose gas cap. So check that. Beyond that you will need to check the hoses and valves and canister and pump that are part of that system for loose fittings. If that proves unremarkable and the code doesn't self-erase after a few days to a couple of weeks of driving then probably a leak detection device will be needed to find the problem of such a small leak. If you don't have a repair manual that describes that system, I can xerox copy and postal mail you the 5 pages about that system if you would like.
