Chrysler Repair: 98 T&C dome lights and drivers side door chime, headlamp switch, door latch

Question
QUESTION: i have a 98 T&C with the Vehicle theft Alarm and the keyless entry option.  My dome light does not turn off and when i open the drivers side door it chimes as though the key is still in the ignition.  Pressing the door switch turns off the chime not the lights. I have to manually turn the interior lights off.

But if left on for awhile the dome lights might flicker off and be fine, then all of a sudden they come back(after 5-15 mins working fine).  The chime and lights seem to one of the same problem, i'm not sure where to start...i'm thinking its a grounding or loose wire issue, but i don't understand why, without anybody touching or in the vehicle, the dome lights will go off then come on.

ANSWER: Hi Perry,
The function of the dome lights (in fact all the courtesy lights) is controlled in two ways: the headlamp switch which is manual, and the body computer which is based on several inputs. The most likely reason is that one of your doors is not being latched tightly enough to prevent a false ajar switch report to the body controller. My suggestion would be to try pushing out on driver and passenger side door while you have the door 'closed' to see if you can get the courtesy lights to come on that way. After that try the sliding door and the rear tail gate, again pushing from inside. If you find one that sets it off then just adjust the door latch by moving it inboard a bit to get a tighter closure.

QUESTION: Thanks for the quick response Roland, but actually the dome lights do NOT turn off.  The only way to get them to turn off is to move the dimmer control switch all the way down.

ANSWER: Hi Perry,
The dome light should go off by turning down the dimmer control. Isn't that normal? Then, with the dimmer down, will it still come 'on' when you open the door? That would be the normal function, I believe. I don't understand the problem, unless otherwise.

QUESTION: Hi Roland, my problem is that the Dome lights stay on when they normally should be off.  For example, you open the door(the dome light comes on) then you close the door (dome light goes off) is the "Normal" operation.

"My" van already has the dome light on, with the door open or closed it doesn't matter the dome light remains on.

Answer
Yes,
But you can turn it off by means of the headlamp switch's interior light dimmer option, correct? I believe that the headlamp switch's interior light control option is in the constantly "on" postion. Just turn the interior light off via that switch would seem to be the solution.
