Chrysler Repair: 1995 Cirrus: engine runs faster than asked to, valve plate, steady speed

Question
For the last few days my car has been pulling when i drive. if i am going at a steady speed it is fine but if i stop at a stop light or speed up and slow down it pulls me to go quite a bit faster than i want can you help me have an idea of what is wrong

Answer
Hi Tiffnay,
It may be a mechanical binding up of the throttle cable or throttle valve plate which you would be able to feel by the action of the gas pedal (try lifting the tip of the pedal with your toe when you feel it is pulling you along for the ride, or operate the the lever at the throttle body when the engine isn't running to see if it moves open and closed freely).
The other possibility is the automaic idle control inside the throttle body is sticking, which you would not sense as a mechanical problem. You might get an indication of this by a fault code readout of the engine computer, which you can do with your ignition key: "on-off-on-off-on and leave on" doing that in 5 seconds or less elapsed time. Then watch the check engine light, which remains "on", to begin to flash, pause, flash, etc. Count the number of flashes before each pause. Then repeant to assure an accurate count. Then group the counts in pairs to form the 2-digit fault code numbers. The last such number is always 55, which means "end of readout". The code for a faulty idle control is 25. Let me know of any other numbers.
So those are some ideas to look into.
