Chrysler Repair: speedo and tach quit working; 95 Lebaron, vehicle speed sensor, analog type

Question
I have a 95 lebaron conv and the tach and speedo just quit working. Any ideas?
Thanks , Tim

Answer
Hi Tim,
Those signals arrive on separate wires to pins 5 and 6 of the black plug on the cluster. I assume you have the conventional analog type gauges (not digital). Because those are derived from different sources (the pcm and vehicle speed sensor) I can't see a common cause for the signals to fail. So it has to either be a problem with the solder connection between the plug's pins and the circuit board of the cluster, or the cluster ground wire (pin 14 of the red plug, black/orange wire to the right side cowl/kick panel). There is a voltage supply to the cluster on pin 9 of the red plug that comes from fuse 16 in the underdash box. If that blew or cracked, it would cut out speedo and tach gauges and the warning lights.
