Chrysler Repair: 92 Lebaron - transmission replacement, chrysler lebaron, transmission replacement

Question
Hi Roland,
it's been three years already since I've asked you question concerning timing belt on 3.0 V6 '92 LeBaron. I have replaced it (including water pump and pulley), so this is fine. Unfortunately I have ran into serious troubles with automatic transmission (4 speed). It worked perfectly and smoothly until about 42000 miles. Every year I replaced fluid (ATX 3+ original Mopar) and filter. About a month ago, going back from vacation in France on a highway at a steady speed of about 75mph the transmission kicked down from 4th to 3rd gear and since then it didn't care about position of the stick. I stopped at the first parking - and it was the last thing I could do with my car. After disassembling the gearbox in a repair shop I was told that some bearing went off and pieces of it damaged most of the interior and that the gearbox requires a general repair. The worse, here in Czech Republic it is hard to find necessary parts. I would like to ask you for a hint / advice: please, do you know whether or not a new trans - or set of necessary parts guts - is still available in the US? If yes, where could I ask and what price should I expect? Thank you.
Best regards,
Zdenek

Answer
Hi Zdenek,
This transmission is one that I don't own myself (my '89 2.5L 4 cyl. has the old design three speed non-electronic trans) so I haven't had occasion to look into the question of getting either parts, a factory rebuilt, or a new trans. May I suggest that you register at the Yahoo.com autos group called The Chrysler Lebaron Club and then ask the question of 2,000+ members, some of whom live in Europe. I will see your request for membership and "approve". Just mention in the remarks space that you have the '92 Lebaron and you are in Europe. Then post a message asking for advice about your situation. I suspect you will get some good advice from both sides of the Atlantic.
