Chrysler Repair: 00 Sebring: trans wont shift, no speedo, screw out, door locks

Question
QUESTION: Trans stuck in one gear (not sure if 2 or 3) speedo not working, odo not working, door locks not going down when should, aid conditioning not working,
Where should I be looking?  control module???
Thanks in advance.

ANSWER: Hi Joe,
The most direct approach would be to get a fault code readout for any faults that the computers may have noted and stored in their memories. Autozone parts stores will often do this for free, of an independent shop will do it for $40 or so. Ask for the 4-digit fault code number, what they mean, what to do, and how much it will cost.
Then write back and we can compare what you were told to the shop manuals for the codes.
One possibility I see is that the output speed sensor on the trans has failed which would shut down the speedometer and put the trans into "limp in" mode which is why it is not shifting out of 2nd gear which it will do to protect itself against potential damage.
Similarly the door locks need that speed sensor to work properly.
Air conditioning is usually a matter of being too low on refrigerant.
The speed sensor is around $80 and it is easy to replace, screw out the old, screw in the new, tighten about the same as a spark plug. Lift gently on the tab of the electrical connector to release it.
It is located on the side of the trans that faces the front of the car, at the very far end of the transmission. But I would verify by fault code first.

QUESTION: Hello,
The fault codes are 720, 500, 700.
Thanks,

Answer
Hi Joe,
Without going into the details of the individual codes, these confirm that there is no signal coming from the output speed sensor to the transmission computer. Unless one or both wires in the circuit it compromises are damaged,I would have to conclude you need to replace that sensor to straighten this out. If you want to check the wires with a test meter the pin connection for the light green/violet is 14 and for the dark blue/brown is 13 if you did a visual inspection of the wires at the 40-pin plug. Check the wire colors at the sensor to verify you have identified it.
