Chrysler Repair: 2001 chrysler t/c lx turn signal/wiper switch, turn signals, ohmmeter

Question
I have been having problems with my turn signals and wipers going crazy...the opposite one goes on when trying to turn left, etc.  also the wipers  won't go off and it seems to be getting worse each day, please help.

Answer
While I am not certain about your 2001 model, the  earlier model for which I have a manual, 1998, has a multi-function switch that operates the turn signals and the wipers from a single stalk. If your is similar than that is very likely the case. Thus it must either be a malfunctioning switch, a loose mounting of the switch, or perhaps the electical plug for the switch is dislodged. You can examine the mounting and plug by removing the top and bottom covers of the steering column (screws are on the underside of the column and when removed will allow both cover to come off). Then locate the multi-function switch and examine its plug and its mounting screws. If all that seems together and tight then I would believe that there is something wrong inside the switch. If you have an ohmmeter or continuity checker I can tell you how to test the various switch positions to see if it is operating correctly or not. You might try spraying some electronic contact cleaner from a spray can into the inside of the switch through any cracks or holes, particularly if the switch ever got wet in the past. There is no other common circuits to these two systems other than the switch except for the possibility that the wires to the switch have been physically damaged. You could look further down the column to see if any of the wires appear to have been damaged.
Those are my suggestions.
