Chrysler Repair: 94 Concorde bcm, voltage depression, grounding wires

Question
Roland, id the BCM in the kick panel on my 94?I'm having intemitnent
problems, radio quits, guages quit, biggest thing, smell wire burning and
smoke comes out the defrost vents on the windshield. (The center hole in
between the vents). Also kills battery dead when it happens, charge the
battery then its OK for a while till it happens again.
Thanks

Answer
PS Because the fuse that powers the courtesy lights has blown I would suggest that you look under the dash for a short in the wire that supplies the glove box light or the the underdash courtesy lights. The hot wires are pink and the grounding wires are yellow. Look for signs of burned insulation.

Hi Dwayne,
I doubt the BCM will cause shorts and wire burning but have a look. Remove the end cap from the right end of the dash, Remove the right cowl side trim panel and pull back the carpeting, exposing the dash liner. Cut dash liner along perforations and pull back dash liner. Remove screw through oblong access hole at right end of knee bolster. Remove push-in fastener at lower leg of module from underneath the instrument panel and manuever the module down and out, disconnect its three electrical plugs. The module is just infront of the right door opening near the lower corner.
I believe that you have a short somewhere removed from the BCM, more centrally positioned based upon the smoke. Any major short circuit powered out of the ignition switch is going to cause all sorts of malfunctions due to voltage depression. The BCM is a low current device so I doubt it can produce such a short.
