Chrysler Repair: front shock needs replacement?, dodge grand caravan, shock absorber

Question
1999 Dodge Grand Caravan 3.3L Auto 120K

At the last oil change, I am told (and shown) that the passenger side front shock absorber has leaked oil. Now I understand that I must change both front shocks together and the comfort of the ride will be less until I replace these. My question is that if I wait a bit (may be a month or two) before I can have it done, will the bad shock absorber affect any other component of the engine or transmission or any other part?
If a failed shock absorber does affect anyother item, I will change it promoptly, otherwise I will wait for sometime.

Thanks in advance for the good answer.

Answer
Hi Shafique,
No, there is no significant risk of delaying replacing a shock absorber. In fact, you may not have to replace it at all if the oil changer pulled a fast one on you by spraying a little oil on the absorber before showing it to you. It has been done before, one of the oldest tricks in the trade to generate shop work.
You can test the state of the absorber on one side vs the other side: simply push down on the top of the fender and then release, step back and observe the body spring back up. Ideally it should rise and stop, not continue to bounce down and up slightly. Compare to the same test result on the side with no "oil leak". In any case, you can wait till you can afford the replacements, because there is nothing that should be sifnificantly worn by waiting. Just a little more bouncy ride.
