Chrysler Repair: Parking Brake: 00 minivan, postal mail, 42 cent stamps

Question
2000 Chysler T&C van. After never using the brake it was pushed and appears to frozen. Driver rear wheel will not turn. How do I release the brake? Pulling the lever in the car does nothing.

Answer
Hi Tom,
The parking brake system is rather complex (pedal mechanism, three cables, type of rear brake (disc or drum)). It covers about 12 pages in my '98 manual. It is probably a binding up of the cable or the mechanism in the wheel. If you would like I can xerox copy the pages and postal mail them to you. Use the "thank and rate" tab where you will find a comment section to list your address. It costs me 10 cents per side and postage, but you can send me back some 42 cent stamps to cover my costs after you receive them.
In the meantime, I would get under the van and compare the cable slack on both sides of the parking brake system. Try flexing the cable on the locked up side to see if it is just binding in the sheath. If it is locked up in the wheel itself you will need to remove the drum or disc bracke if the type you have to get at the parking brake mechanism. And that requires all the pages.
