Chrysler Repair: Anti-theft shut down issue T@C 2001, power door locks, old fashion way

Question
QUESTION: We have a TC Van 2001.  We have trouble with it randomly not starting. We only have one set of keys (Gray chip key and remote). It may start right back, or in a hour, or 3 hours. There is no pattern to it. Is there a way to reset the alarm system in the computer? I have heard of unhooking the negative battery charge, turning the key to almost on for 10 minutes, etc.   Is there a way to reset everything and then
NOT ever activate the alarm again?  Thanks so much!

ANSWER: Hi Donna,
If the problem is that the alarm system is not disarming when you open the van, it could be that one or both of the two wires from the front door key locks is broken or intermittent. But that requires getting inside the door and replacing the wire. Or it could be something related to the body computer which is where the anti-theft system is localized.
Once the problem clears, by waiting as you described or disconnecting the battery, once that non-start situation is cleared (I don't have a magic solution other than try the door key to lock/unlock both of the front doors in hope that one or the other will send the OK message) then the only solution for 'NOT ever activate the alarm again' is to always secure the van when leaving by means of the mechanical pushbuttons on the doors (like the good old days!). Never use the power door lock switches, the door keys, or the remote to lock the van. That is the only practical way to never have the problem. The theft system is not a separate module so you can't disconnect it or anything like that. It just means getting use to the idea of not involving the power door locks in securing the van when you leave.

QUESTION: Thanks so much...Ok, so if I leave my van, just push the door lock the drivers door, what about the sliding doors, and the gate...I am willing to do whatever it takes..old fashion way included.   And then I just use the key to unlock the door when returning to the car?  Is there a way to reset, (like removing the negative battery charge) to help the issue? Thanks for your help!

Answer
Hi Donna,
On the sliding door, is there a mechanical button or slider on the inside latch? If so, then use that to secure the sliding door. It is no problem to use the door key to unlock any door. Just don't turn it the wrong way (the lock position) so as to accidentally reset the theft alarm. The rear latch doesn't have an inside mechanical release (I suspect) but its exterior key lock does "sense" the key action but I don't believe it will set the alarm if another door is still open (can't be certain of that).
One other 'disarm' approach to try the next time you get stuck in the alarmed "no start" situation is to open the hood, then go to the rear and turn the lift gate lock with the key to the 'open' and then back to neutral position. That may well be an effective 'clearing'/disarm technique for the problem.
I would appreciate feedback about how this works.
