Chrysler LeBaron Convertible 3L Engine year 1993
the battery is not charging
i have the check engine light on and the computer code is 41 alternator field control circuit open or shorted ive had the alternator checked and its ok i havent got a manual as i cant find one here.i would like to know how to check the field circuit as i dont know what wires are what and where they go and what should i be looking for and the probable cause the belt is fine      thanks Lance

The field coils are connected to two wires:
The dark green/orange should have 12V on it when the engine is running as that is the same voltage source for the injectors, etc. that is provided by the autoshutdown relay.
The dark green wire is the regulator control that comes from pin 20 of the 60-way plug at the engine control module. It is oscillated between 12V and ground by the controller to regulate the output of the alternator. The two wires pass thru a black colored 10-wire disconnect located "behind the battery" according to the manual.
So check for 12V on the dark green/orange with the engine running. Then remove the 60-way and check for continuity between the alternator dark green wire's connector and pin 20. Then verify that the dark green wire isn't shorted to ground.   If those check out then it has to be the alternator or the ecm (which would be the case if the dark green wire shows a constant 12V with engine running and the charge light 'on', rather than some sort of intermediate voltage between 0 and 12).
