Chrysler Repair: Chrysler concord 1993: no gauge, no shift, data communication system, digital data communication

Question
car starts. gauges flat lined. car stay's in low gear.

Answer
Hi Sharon,
By flat lined I assume you mean no readings above 0, correct?
I would begin by using the ignition key to see if there are any fault codes stored in the engine controller: Turn it
'On-off-on-off-on and leave on' doing that in 5 seconds or less elapsed time. Then watch the check engine light, which remains "on" to begin to flash, pause, flash, etc. Count the number of flashes before each pause. Then repeat the count to make sure they are accurate. Then combine the counts in pairs in the order of appearance to form the 2-digit numbers that are the fault codes.
The last code should be 55 because that means "end of readout".
Then either write back or go to www.allpar.com/fix/codes.html for a code list. I suspect there is a problem with the digital data communication system as that is needed both for the transmission to shift properly and to operate the gauges. But let us see.
