Chrysler Repair: 99 Sebring Convertible Starting Problems, digit code number, manual roland

Question
99 Sebring Convt.
The car will start on occasion (not temperature dependant).  Went to Chrysler Before this issue below to have another key programmed, and the Tech stated that a comm. error was occurring (intermittently).  He got the key programmed, but now I have a start issue below.  The only key that will start the car and let it run "some" is the original.

When driving the car, it will die on occasion (at highway speeds, or idle).  I gave the car a tune-up which has not helped.  The weird thing is that after the car died (the past few times), I hit the panic button on the key fob and the car started back up and ran normally.  This worked for a few days, but now the car will only start and die (if it decides to start at all).  Any ideas on moving forward (I was thinking the sentry key system needed replaced)?

Thanks For the help

Answer
Hi Rob,
The start and die after about 3 seconds is symptomatic of the theft security system, though it is not the only possibility. But given the history I would begin with that possibility. Unfortunately, to diagnose the problem seems to be best done with a Chrysler diagnostic readout box III. Other than that, getting a readout of any fault codes stored in the computer memories is helpful. That can be done for free at an Autozone parts store, or for about $40 at an independent shop. Ask for the 4-digit code number, what it means, what is the solution, and how much? Then let me know and we can compare that to the manual.
