Chrysler Repair: transmission buzzing sound, 4 digit numbers, independent shop

Question
i have a 1999 Chrysler Sirius and every time that i put it on drive or ravers any gear it makes a buzz sound on the tranny.and the car stumbles and has the check light on what could it be.          thank you

Answer
Hi Juan,
The check engine light coming on means there is a recognition of a problem by the powertrain controller and there should thus be a fault code stored in its memory. You might try turning the ignition key 'on-off-on-off-on and leave on, doing that in 5 seconds or less elapsed time. The watch to see if the odometer changes to show and 4-digit numbers which would be the fault codes. If that doesn't work and you have an Autozone parts store nearby you can go there and they will do a readout for free using an access plug under the dash next to the steering column, or you can go to an independent shop and they will typically do the readout for $40 or less. Get the numbers and their conclusion, then write back and we can compare that to the shop manual. The fault code approach is the best way to start to find out what is wrong.
