Question
Check engine light stays on. scanned for codes. Codes PO171 and PO300 dispayed. Chrysler shop manual for generic codes reads, PO171, Left upstream fuel system lean. Code PO300, Multiple cylinder misfire. Car is a 1996 Chrysler Concord 3.3 Eng. 92000 miles. Is this a Bad Oxy sensor?

Answer
Hi Don,
The oxygen sensor on the right side could be the cause of the 0171. Other possibilites are the fuel pump/fuel supply line, throttle position sensor, map sensor, engine coolant temp sensor, fuel filter, fuel regulator pressure, or even the controller. But the O2 sensor would be the most likely cause and would probably be the first thing to change. If that doesn't fix it, then there are ways to diagnose the other componenets. After you replace the sensor, remove fuse #13 from behind the dash for 15 minutes, then replace it. That should erase the fault codes and you can then see which if any reappear. Soak around the threads of the oxygen sensor with penetrating oil/rust remover and let it sit overnight before removal. The new one is torqued in to about the same degree as a spark plug. Becareful not to damage the wires when installing it. It may clear both codes.
