Chrysler Repair: Chrysler neon 2000: slow upshift, chrysler neon 2000, vacuum modulator

Question
does the  neon have a vacuum modulator on the auto transmission.    my car takes a long time to shift gears,  and the transmission oil has a burnt smell.   I recently had a transmission cooling line break and drove it home before I noticed it was leaking lots of trans oil,  did I burn it out?

thanks

Answer
Hi Mark,
I would change the transmission fluid to begin with, probably doing a power flush to get rid of all the fluid rather than just half of it. You  could then adjust the kickdown band. Then see how it shifts. There are not built-in diagnostics but on the other hand this is a less expensive trans to rebuild than the electronic trans if it turns out to be necessary. Other than adjusting the kickdown band, the only other part that might be involved in slow shifting that can be serviced with the trans in the car is the governor and its support seal rings. That could be the reason for delayed up shifting. It is accessible when you have the pan off, and removing the valve body.
There is not much else that you could do if it still is slow in shifting other than to remove and open it up.
