Chrysler Repair: obdII monitors: catalytic, smog test, cat converter

96 dodge 1/2 1500 with 3.9.  Failed CA smog test due to 3 incomplete monitors; CAT, O2 sensor and O2 heater. After drive cycle the O2 and O2 heater run but not the cat, which would be enough to pass the inspection. However, both O2 monitors reset to incomplete after restart. No driveability, emission or MIL problems and processor power sources are ok. In case you were wondering, the smog tech performs the functional MIL, which requires engine off, before the analyzer performs the OBD functional, so performing drive cycle and going straight to shop doesnt work. Not sure what to check next!   Dan

Hi Dan,
There are several CAT related codes, so you would do better if you knew the exact number. I would certainly inspect the cat converter and the entire exhaust system for leaks. But try and get the exact number. An Autozone parts store will often give you a reading for free.
