Chrysler Repair: Sticking life gate latch, gate latch, chrysler voyager

The latch on the lift gate for my 2000 chrysler voyager has been hard to open for quite sometime,but lately it's gotten worse. It will not unlatch with the power locks and will not unlock with the key it can only be opened by pressing ones foot nxt to the latch and pressing down on the door while lifting at the same time. Can this problem be aleviated by lubrication or does the latch need to be replaced? Is it possible to service this my self or should I go to a garage?

It could be a lube problem but it sounds like your having allot of problems with the latch it might just be better to replace it so you know the problems fixed and as far as doing the repair once you pull the interior panel off the latch should be there you could probably do the repair as long as you can remove the interior panel but its your choice
