Chrysler Repair: 1990 New Yorker: several circuits out:, amp fuse, line roland

Question
QUESTION: Today the airbag light went on and stays on. the power windows stoped working all 4 of them, the heater control led wont light and the heater wont work. and i think the rear window defoger is out also..what do i check. and why did they go out all of a suddon thanks for any help you can give me.......Jim

ANSWER: Hi Jim,
It appears to me that either a 50 amp fuse in the power distribution center under the hood on the left inner fender which is labelled
"blower motor" is blown (check also for a subtle crack) or the ignition switch section that controls the output of that fuse is "open". Everything that you have lost are on the line.

QUESTION: i checked that fuse marked blower motor and its good. dont seem to be any cracks any place. could it be a fuse in the fuse box? i didnt check there yet. i didnt think that would be were the problem would be.  when i checked the 50amp fuse i switch it with the parking light fuse (same 50amp fuse)  were do i go from here?  thanks

ANSWER: Hi Jim,
I would go to the ignition switch and verify whether the fuse is sending the voltage to it, and then in the 'run' position whether the voltage comes out. If not, then the switch is bad, or at least could have oxidized/corroded contacts which might be improved by use of some circuit board cleaner sprayed in the interior of the switch. If you can't get the switch to conduct then a replacement will be required. You could begin by checking fuse socket pins for fuses #9,10 and 11 which are fed by that section of the switch to verify my theory. I suspect you will find those to be 'cold' when the switch is in the 'run' position.
The pink wire at the switch brings the voltage from the fuse, the black/orange is supposed to pass it along to the above fuses.

QUESTION: thank god for people like you  iam not to car savey but i can find my way around. this might sound stupid but were would i find that ignition switch? is it in the coloum were i put the key in? is it hard to get at.??   thanks so much for your time....jim

Answer
Hi Jim,
The ignition switch is on the other side of the steering column from the key cylinder. To get to the wires you simply unscrew the turn signal lever. Then remove the three torx-20 size screws that hold the upper and lower steering column covers and remove the covers. You should have access to the colored wires I described which you can access by means of a pin inserted into the connector socket which receives the wire. The two wires are next to oneanother in the connector. If you need to replace the switch let me know. But try some circuit board cleaner inserting the spray can stray nozzle into an access hole to get into the switch.
