Answer
Hi Carol,
If you hear a soft click from the starter relay in the power distribution center under the hood, and a loud click from the starter motor, then there is nothing wrong with the computer. All it does electrically is to make sure that the gear shift is in Park or Neutral before it allows the starter relay to close (click). I would recheck the cables at the battery post clamps and make sure that the cables are in good condition and that the clamps are tight and recall whether the posts and the clamps appeared to be in clean condition. You would do well to check the - post cables at their far ends to be sure that they are firmly attached and that the attachment points are not rusty. Check the fat red cable from the + post where it attaches to the starter motor. But don't touch any wire like it that attaches to the + post without first disconnecting the - post clamp from the battery.
If all that checks out, it may be that the battery is weak and needs to be charged. Did any of the work you did involve the starter motor or its wiring?
