Chrysler Repair: 2002 Sebring Convertible top not working, motor brushes, convertible top

Question
My 2002 Sebring Convertible top opened for me today, but 5 min later, it would not close.  It is not frozen in the open position.  I am thinking that the power is not the problem, because if I have the heat on, it diminishes when I press the button to close the top, but I'm not sure about this.  I have thought for the last month or so that the top was sluggish opening and closing.

Answer
Hi Bruce,
The slowing down of the blower for the heater shows that the circuit to the top motor is patent (and therefor drawing current which drops the operating voltage of the battery) but that the motor is not responding by rotating. So it would suggest that either the motor brushes are not conducting well enough to rotate the commutator or that it is mechanically bound up. So that is where your attention should be focused, I believe.
