Chrysler Repair: vibration when accelerating, dodge grand caravan, code translation


Question
I have 1992 dodge grand caravan 3.3 fwd that has a very bad vibration when accelerating.  I have replace left & right side axles, transmission mount, motor mounts, & tires..Nothing seems to stop the vibration..any info would be great..thanks

Hi Max,
It is hard to assess without being there when it happens. But I wonder if you might be suffering some "missing" of the engine which could be due to many things. I would try to see if you have any fault codes stored in the engine controller. Turn the ignition switch:"on-off-on-off-on and leave on" doing that in 5 seconds or less. Then observe that the check engine light remains 'on' but then starts to flash, pause, flash, etc. Count the number of flashes before each pause. Then repeat to verify the accuracy of your counts. Then group the numbers in pairs in the order of appearance to form the 2-digit fault codes. The last code is always 55 because that is the code for "end of readout".  Then go to www.allpar.com/fix/codes.html for a code translation. If you need some further advice feel free to write back.
