Chrysler Repair: 93 Dodge Spirit fuel system problem, fuel pump relay, dodge spirit

Question
Hi again Roland:
As this is a new thread, I thought I'd refresh.  I jumped with 12V from the red/white wire to the dark green/black wire that goes to the fuel pump on the fuel pump relay. The fuel pump plug shows 12V but the fuel pump doesn't run.  However, I was able to use the ASD relay for testing purposes, by using jumping wires from the fuel pump plug to the ASD relay.  After making the jump, I get identical results with the ASD relay as with the fuel pump relay.  The dark green pole shows no voltage at ignition turn on.  Also, the blue/yellow wire shows 12V at ignition turn on, instead of reading 0V for two seconds.

Answer
Hi John,
That is strange. I would try measuring the dark blue/yellow when you are cranking the engine over. It should be grounded by the engine controller (at pin 51 of the 60-way plug) as that is the only way that the ASD will close (which activates the ignition coil - plug (dark green/orange wire)along with the fuel injector, and that same wire is connected to it and being grounded would close the fuel pump relay contacts. You told me earlier that you were getting spark, and the only way that can be is if the dark blue/yellow is grounded when you are cranking it, and because the same dark blue/yellow goes to the fuel pump relay it too should show grounding when you are cranking it and that should close its contacts and send 12V to the fuel pump itself. I can't explain why you aren't getting a 2 second ground of the blue/yellow, but at least see if it isn't grounding when you are cranking it, and that results in 12V at the dark green/orange of the igniton coil and 12V at the dark green/black at the fuel pump relay as long as you are cranking it. That is the bottom line behavior you need to start the engine, regardless of what happens when you first turn on the igniton switch to "run".

PS I assume that when you wrote 'dark green pole', that you meant the dark green wire with a black trace.
