Chrysler Repair: 97 Town & Country Mode Actuator, style vacuum, town country

Question
Roland,  I am trying to change the mode actuator on my 97 Town & Country.  I see two problems: 1) I cannot see how to get access to the top mounting screw.  2) It does not look like there is enough room to dis-engage the actuator from the gearing because there is a dash brace running close beside the actuator.  Any advise would be appreciated.  Thanks.

Answer
Hi Larry,
Are you sure that you are working on the mode door actuator? My '98 manual shows that it is on the left side of the housing at the top front. The manual implies that once you have the under dash cover removed that the only problem is the abs module which first needs to be removed, if you have abs. You then remove the actuator plug and its 3 screws and it comes off. I don't see any mention of a problem with the dash brace or a top screw that I can see. I believe that the '97 housing should be the same, as the '95 was the old-style vacuum operated mode door, and it is doubtful that the new design was modified so soon as to be out of date in '98. I trust that you aren't working with a vacuum actuated system.
