Chrysler Repair: Chrysler Concord 3.5L: no start, no codes, chrysler concord, coolant temp

Question
Have a Concord 3.5L that I parked one evening and the next day it wouldn't
start. The ASD relay is staying on while cranking, there is good spark and the
fuel pump is pumping fuel.  Although I do not have a fuel rail pressure gage, I
did jumper the fuel pump relay and could hear fuel flowing through the fuel
rail regulator.  Given the car was running fine on parking the car,
contaminated fuel would not seem to be a problem.  There is no OBD ll codes
being set.  Had a working PCM, so tried it just in case the pcm was doing
something weird with the timing while cranking.   Wondering if there can be
any problems with the cam and crank sensors where the pcm still sets the
ASD relay?  Any other thoughts?  Thanks, Bill

Answer
Hi Bill,
I would expect a code to be set if there were a problem with the cam or crank sensor, and the asd setting only corroborates that. I would be inclined to check the coolant temp sensor to make sure that it is reading in the range of 10,000-14,000 ohms. Also, while you didn't mention the year of the vehicle so I can't be sure of the egr valve design, if the valve stem is accessible between the body of the valve and the vacuum actuator I would check that the valve is closed by manipulating the stem using the tip of a screwdriver in the slem slot. You have spark, you have fuel, but maybe the mixture is not proper for a cold start. Also, hearing the fuel flowing thru the regulator makes me suspicious that you might have a leak in the regulator diaphram I would check the vacuum line to the regulator to see if it is wet with fuel which would be a sign of a leak.
Please let me know what you learn.
