Chrysler Repair: crankshaft sensor location: Breeze 2.0L, camshaft sensor, crankshaft sensor

Question
QUESTION: Where would I Find the crankshaft sensor on a 1998 Plymouth Breeze?

ANSWER: Hi Julie,
The location of the camshaft sensor depends upon which engine is in the vehicle. The 2.5L V-6 has the camshaft sensor inside the distributor and my impression is that it is not sold as a separate part. This makes the cost much higher to replace that sensor. If you are sure it is bad, then I would shop around to see who offers the lowest price for the distributor. Let me know if this is your engine and I can give you specifics on replacing the distributor.
The four cylinders engines have individual sensors located at the rear of the engine at the level of the cam shaft, which would be at the level of the valve cover. So let me know which of those engines you have and I can give you specifics.
Is the diagnosis of the camsensor based on a fault code readout, and have the wires from the sensor to the computer been checked to be sure that they are not the cause of the problem?

QUESTION: My Plymouth is a 4 cyl

Answer
Hi Julie,
It is on the rear of the engine, attached to the cylinder head. Remove the air intake tube from the throttle body and air cleaner housing. Remove the air cleaner inlet tube. Remove the electrical connectors from the sensor and from the coolant temp sensor nearby. Remove brake booster vacuum hose and electrical connectors from holder on end of cylinder head cover. Remove the mounting screws for the sensor and remove sensor. Loosen screws attaching target magnet to rear of camshaft. You may not have to remove the magnet but if you do:
The target magnet has two locating dowels that fit in holes in the end of the camshaft. Attach magnet to camshaft, tigten screws. Then install the sensor. Then reverse the process used to remove it.
When you buy the replacement sensor you will then be able to recognize the old one for removal.
