Chrysler Repair: Chrysler 300M computer, chrysler 300m, oem modules

Question
QUESTION: The car will run for about a mile and die.  Found two pins in one of the two connectors had some black sticky substance shorted them and melted the plastic around the pins.  The dealer says I have to buy a new computer from them for close to $800 because the VIN has to be programmed in otherwise it will not work in this vehicle.  I found OEM modules online for half that price.  Is the dealer being staight with me or can I buy one with the same part number and have it work?

ANSWER: u will still need to have the vin programed into it yes   plus  do u have a gray key  or not?

QUESTION: A gray key.  Also can most auto shops program the VIN or is that something the dealer has to do?

Answer
sense u have the gray key only a dealer can program it. The gray key is an alarm feature to where the key is programed to the car and the PCM. Installing a pcm and programing the vin will not allow this car to start up and run. The secret key core will haft to be programed into the PCM  and if u get a used PCM  and it already has the same kinda code it it  it cant be programed to your car.
