Chrysler Repair: oil light: 3.3L engine, oil sending unit, hi doug

Question
the oil light is on but car is full of oil ,could it be the oil sending unit gone bad and if so where is it located on the engine . the engine is a 3.3 chrysler

Answer
Hi Doug,
It could be the sending unit or the wire to it might be shorted to ground. So remove the wire plug and it should go out; otherwise the wire is grounded.  You can also test the accuracy by substituting a gauge for the sending unit. It should read at least 5 psi at idle and 30 psi at 3,000 rpm.
You will find the sender right next to the oil filter, toward the front of the engine side of it.
If you have the light "on" just at warm idle, then the alternative might be to increase the "weight" of the oil one step, which will raise the pressure at a given rpm. So long as the light is out at rpm's above idle it is likely not an issue.
