Chrysler Repair: 94 Lebaron PDU meltdown, lebaron gtc, convertiable

Question
I just got a call from the dealer - seems as if my 94 Lebaron GTC convertiable had a PDU melt down. My alternator had just gone out - so I took it in for replacement. The dealer says Chrysler doesn't make a PDU for this model - any suggestions on replacement and how this melt down could have happened?

Answer
Hi Mark,
I an unsure what you mean by PDU, unless you mean power distribution center (PDC) which is the fuse and relay box under the hood. If that has melted down it is no doubt due to a wire carrying lots of current being shorted to ground by some means. I would study where the melt down occured and test for what is grounded so as to correct that cause. There are plenty of PDC's for the LeBaron in wrecking yards and any from cars of the years '92-95 will substitute for your '94. So that is the route I would go. Let me know if you want the wiring schematic for the "PDU".
If you mean something else, please spell it out.
