Chrysler Repair: early grand cherokee wont start, chrysler line, power locks

Question
My friend changed the driver side door of his grd cherokee & now it won't start.  He then replaced all the guts from the old door to the new one and still nothing.  I think it's a security issue.  There's no remote entry (lost it) and the key is not a grey key.  I think the Jeep is a 93 or 94.  How can we clear the alarm?  You mentioned a clearing process with a resistor- How is this done and what other procedures can we use?  Sorry for being so general.  Any help will be appreciated.  I really believe that it's the alarm that's preventing it from running.
Thanks,
Greg

Answer
Hi Greg,
First off, does the engine catch and then die in a second or so? That is the symptom of an alarmed security system for the Chrysler line of vehicles, but I can't be certain if the same thing is true of Jeeps. What does the security light on the dash show? In any case, I would try to lock/unlock the passenger door using the key as that should also be set up to clear the alarm. Then, never use the power locks or the door key to lock up when exiting, just use the push buttons to secure the door and that will prevent it from arming.
On the resistor technique, you have to go to the body computer and find a light green/orange wire. In the early/mid '90's there was no resistor used in the door locks but rather just a ground/unground. So if you can find that wire try using a pin to pierce thru the insulation, then ground the pin to anything metallic in the body structure nearby, then unground it. That should also clear the armed situation. Only in the 96-up years did they use the two-resistor switch type of clearing at the doors.
