Chrysler Repair: Tail LIght on 03 T&C, chrysler town and country, light bulbs

Question
The left rear tail light quit working on my 2003 Chrysler Town and Country.  It doesn't work even when I put in a new bulb.  The fuses don't appear to be blown.  It seems to have happened while towing a trailer.  Anything else I can look at?

Answer
Hi Tom,
Because of the costs I have not been able to acquire a manual as recent as a 2003. But my '98 manual shows that there are two tail light bulbs on each side, that year. Is that the case in your vehicle? If so are both bulbs out? Were that the case I would expect either the fuse for that side has a subtle crack in it. That fuse is #5 in '98 and it also lights the license plate. Otherwise check the socket itself which I am told is pretty light duty and prove to fail. You should have 12v compared to any structural metal surface on the brown/yellow wire and the lights turned on, as a check that the voltage is getting to the bulb socket. If not then it has to be the fuse or a connector up the wire.
If you have the trailer tow factory wiring, then there are some other possibilities such as another relay and its wiring. But I haven't figured out exactly how this extra wiring works and the manual it skimpy on the subject.
Let me know what you observe and we'll try to go on.
