Chrysler Repair: low engine oil light and chime, oil pressure switch, infinite ohms

Question
1998 plymouth voyager 3.0 engine after having my transmisson rebuilt the low engine oil and chime has stayed on. I repalced the oil pressure switch just in case. Oil does seem to be circulating chime shuts off after ten min light stays on. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Answer
Hi Charles,
If the pressure sensor is correct (and if you so choose you might verify with a pressure gauge inserted in place of the sensor switch was correct, minimum pressure of 5 psi at idle) then my suggestion would be to increase the "weight" of the engine oil by one step the next time you change the oil in order to raise the pressure sufficiently to close the sender switch. You could also check the gray wire after removing it from the sensor by verifying that it reads a resistance greater the 0 ohms after also removing it from the sensor and removing the plug from the body control module located on the back side of the fuse box under the dash. (No need to pull the plug at the body module unless the reading is shorted to ground (0 ohms) so as to be sure that the pin 52 of the module to which it is connected is not normally grounded). With the wire disconnected at both ends it should read infinite ohms to ground; if not then you will need to find the break in its insulation that is causing a false low-pressure reading.
