Chrysler Repair: 1997 lhs: blower motor runs only on high speed, blower motor resistor, automatic temperature control

Question
QUESTION: blower motor stays on high even in the off position. when its in the on position blower stays on high all the time. when heater is turned off it blows cold air through the defroster.

ANSWER: Hi Kathy,
There is no need to use the Private option.
The problem is either your blower motor resistor block (if you have the conventional type controls) or blower motor power module (if you have the automatic temperature control).
If you want to replace this yourself let me no and tell me which type of control you have and I can describe how to do it.

QUESTION: how do i tell which controll i have

Answer
The ATC has an electronic digital temperature readout, while the conventional just has a dial setting.
That will tell you which part to buy at a dealer (or a junk yard, or perhaps a trade-type parts store). All you do is remove the pad/duct on the lower edge of the right side of the dash so you can see better underneath. At the right end of the heater/ac housing is the blower (turn it on to find it by its sound, then turn off). In the air duct directly to the left and adjacent to the blower is the block/ module. You will see wires from the blower housing that run directly to block/module. There is a plug at that end which you pull out to remove. Then on either side of the plug socket are two screws. Remove the screws and the block/module will drop out of the duct. Install the new one and reverse the steps. That should give you control once again.
