Chrysler Repair: 1993 Plymouth Acclaim: engine missing, exhaust gas recirculation valve, exhaust gas recirculation

Question
The car was running very badly and needed a tune up.  It seemed like it
wasn't getting enough gas and I first changed the gas filter and it didn't help
very much.  I then talked to a dealer service dept. and they advised to change
the temp sensor and I also found and replaced a broke vacuum line that run
from the air breath/cleaner to a unit near the passenger side headlight, this
unit/part was part of the fuel line running to the gas tank.  Replacing the
sensor and the vacuum line didn't help much.  I then changed plugs, wires,
distributor cap and rotor cap.  The rotor cap was obliviously bad and the car
runs better and better fuel mileage.  But it still sputters and jerks after it
warms up at cruising speed, it runs pretty good until then.  The problems still
seems to be with the gas, additives didn't help.  I just started work and need
a good work car.  Can you help?

Answer
Hi Ron,
I would see if there are any fault codes stored in the computer, and check the exhaust gas recirculation valve for freedom of movement.
The codes can be obtained with the ignition switch:"On-off-on-off-on and leave it on" doing that in 5 seconds or less elapsed time. Then watch the check engine light that remains 'on' to begin to flash, pause, flash, etc. Count the number of flashes before each pause, then repeat for accuracy. Then combine the counts in pairs in the order of appearance to form the two-digit fault codes. Then either write back or go to www.allpar.com/fix/codes.html for a code translation. You should always get a 55 code last as it means "end of readout".
On the egr, the location depends upon which engine is in the car. But check the underhood sticker to see if your engine has an egr first. If you write back, tell me the codes and which engine you have so we can go from there.
