Chrysler Repair: 97 mitsubishi eclipse transmission problem: solved!, chryseler, mitsubishi eclipse

Question
QUESTION: hi roland,it's rick with the mitsubishi eclipse with the transmission sensor problem. in any case, after changing over the output speed sensor and it still did the same problem, i decided to take it to mitsubishi. he called me and said that based on the codes received it's the input and output sensors. so i told him what i did. and after waiting a week for the sensors to come in,he said that now they're getting different codes and they're still checking it out and it might be the trans computer or the trans itself, ouch. so i'm still waiting. but i'd like to know what you think of that assessment?does that sound right?thanks for everything you could do.........rick!

ANSWER: Hi Rick,
Ask for the specific code numbers and the names associated with the codes. If they are in the same data base as those for the Chryseler trans' then we can go somewhere with the info. Let me know what numbers/names they give you. Better yet ask to see the readout when you go in to get the info.
Nothing like observing it yourself!

QUESTION: hi roland..sending you an update of what's up..i went to the dealer and asked for the codes and they said it was a PO500 which they said was pertaining to the output sensor but after changing the sensor they thought it was the wire to it but that wasn't it so after checking things out they noticed the transmission computer wasn't responding. so they ordered a new computer which will be here in a week and that should take care of it. does that sound right to you? is it possible that it was the computer all along?i'd like your input on what to do..if you think they might say it's something else and keep going with this..who knows next it's the actual transmission or? anyway ,thanks for everything.......rick!

ANSWER: Hi Rick,
The O500 code is indeed for the output sensor. When there is no response from the trans computer they should verify the basic power to the computer via the ignition switch output circuits and fused B+ circuit are present as well as its ground circuit. You might verify that was done now.
The next step is to try a new computer. But because it is not a certainty (it could then be the PCI bus or body computer) I would object to being required to accept that trans computer cost in the event that it does not solve the problem. They should commit BEFORE it is installed to taking it back for full credit if that is not a final solution. Because of the 0500 the replacement of the output sensor is defensible.

QUESTION: hey roland, how are you? anyway, after doing what you told me to do it was finally fixed with the trans computer being shorted out by a bad wire which was replaced along with the input and output sensors, supposedly. i just want to say thank you for everything . you're definitely an expert at this stuff and maybe you should write a book on how to protect regular working people from being taken advantage of . thanks again...rick!

Answer
Hi Rick,
That is wonderful news! I am glad you stood your ground until they found out it was a wiring issue that was preventing the computer from working rather than the computer itself.
It makes me feel good to know that I was some help to you in avoiding unnecessarily expensive repairs. Way to go!
