Chrysler Repair: 1992 Dynasty Cuts off when hot, crank sensor, code translator

Question
I have a 1992 Chrysler Dynasty that cuts off when it is hot.  I have replaced the computer and relays and I am at a lost as to what could be causing this.  Do you have any suggestions?  Thanks

Answer
Hi Marcus,
I suspect it is either the crank sensor or the cam sensor if you have the 3.3 or 3.8L engine, and the ignition sensor in the distributor if you have 2.5 or 3.0L engine. Those often when they fail due so as they heat up, then recover when things cool down.
To check out which is the problem use the ignition key to get a readout of the fault codes that might have been recorded by the computer and stored in its memory:"on-off-on-off-on and leave on", doing that in 5 seconds or less elapsed time. Then watch the check engine light which remains "on" to begin to flash, pause, flash, etc. Count the number of flashes before each pause. Then repeat to assure an accurate set of counts. Then group the numbers in pairs in the order of appearance. Those 2-digit numbers are the fault codes. The last code is always 55 which means "end of readout". It you have an 11 or a 54 code it means one of the sensors is bad. Otherwise check www.allpar.com/fix/codes.html for a code translator. Then write back for specific instructions but do tell me which engine you have.
