Question
hi my question is fairly simple.  my started just died and i know its the started cause the car just clicks when i try to start it and the battery seems to be oky and plus it won't jump start so i know its not the battery.  It sounds kinda a dumb but i wanted to know if u can tell me where the started was located at exactly on my 98 sebring lxi coupe.

Answer
Hi John,
The starter motor is located on the rear lower side of the engine that faces the front of the car. You will need to jack up either front wheel of the car and put it on a jack stand to get to it. It is about midline and next to the crossover exhaust pipe. You will want to remove the negative cable from the battery, then the oil filter, then the nut that holds the fat red cable from the battery to the motor itself, the push-on connector for the starter solenoid, and finally the three bolts that hold the motor to the seam between the engine and the transmission. Installation is the reverse.
To get a temporary work-around, you might try tapping on the side of the motor with a hammer while a helper tries the 'start' position via the ignition key. Sometimes that will get the motor to respond if you need to get it started before you can replace it. I would recommend having a local auto electric shop rebuild the motor rather than trading it in for a rebuild at a parts store. You know the history of your motor that way.
