Chrysler Repair: 1994 chrysler lebaron convertible power locks, reversal of polarity, chrysler lebaron

Question
The power door locks will lock with the button inside on either door, but when you go to unlock the doors, all you get is a fast clicking sound (like when you try to start a car with a low battery)

Answer
Hi Mike,
The door lock motors are simply reversible by changing the polarity of the applied voltage, and the operating switches of course accomplish that reversal of polarity. Otherwise there is no difference electrically between the lock and the unlock function. My thought is that the mechanical operation of the latching mechanism which is driven by the lock motor in each door needs to be lubricated. These are now 13 years old and probably pretty dry/dust/gummy and more exposed to the elements because of the body type. I would suggest that you remove the door panel to take a look at each mechanism to see how it operates and where to lube it.
