Chrysler Repair: Chrysler town & country 1997, windshield wipers, water overflows

Question
My Chrysler 1997 Town & Country has only recently sprung leaks of water from the front or the van, apprently under the hood, behind the engine fire wall, when water runs off the  windshield down to the hood vents then under the hood to the engine and then apparently,  behind the dash board. This happens only in torrential down pours or in very heavy touchless car washes. Water literally pours behind the front passenger glove box, behind the dash board onto the floor msotly on the passenger side, sometimes on the drivers side as well, soaking the rugs and filling up the metal well where the seat sits. We have had this happen twice. Once during a severe rain storm and yesterday in a car wash. It has mildewed the rugs and is alarming that so much water can come down behind the dash board between the fire wall and find its way to the inside of the car. It comes out in a stream of water, not a trickle. Is there a compromised seal?

Answer
Hi Gregg,
This is due to the drainage opening for the air intake plenum below the grill that is right in front of the windshield being clogged with debris. I don't know whether the drain outlet could be accessed to try and clean it out and if not then you have to remove the grill and locate the drain opening that is probably at the outside corner on the passenger side. Being clogged, all the water overflows into the heater/AC air intake and thus into your cabin. I have the instructions for removing the windshield wipers and the grill but would find it more convenient to xerox and postal mail these to you. Use the "thank and rate" tab to reply where you can enter your address. Otherwise, check with a dealer.
