Chrysler Repair: cigarette lighter and low speed blower fuses:Sebring 03, car cigarette lighter, 30 amp fuse

Question
QUESTION: My girlfriends car cigarette lighter has never worked and I know it has to be a fuse but her owners manual does not say which one. Her lower speeds 1,2,3 on blower stopped working. I also think this is a fuse problem but don't know which one. The book is not much help. She purchased the car used. I have checked all the fuses inside the car and they show good even the 30 amp fuse which the book says is the one for blower motor. I even went to a dealer and asked the mechanics but were no help at all. I guess I should not have kept my money in my pocket??  Thank you

John

ANSWER: Hi John,
I can't be very specific because you didn't tell me the year and model of the car. The blower motor is not a fuse problem but rather a small device called the "resistor block" which is a voltage divider network that produces the different voltages that change the blower speed choices.
You can get a replacement and put it in yourself. To find it, trace the wires that go to the blower back to a plug nearby, and that device is the resistor block.
On the cigarette lighter, yes that is on a fuse but again I need to know the year and model.

Answer
Hi John,
The resistor block is mounted in the internal air duct of the AC/heater housing, very close to the blower motor which is on the lower right hand side of the unit. You may want to remove the lower edge of the dash panel on that right side for visibility and access. Just follow the blower wire to find it, held in place by a couple of screws.
The fuse for the cigarette lighter (as shown in the '98 manual which is the most recent one I have) is #8 in the fuse box under the dash. I can't be sure that they didn't change the fuse assignments after that manual, but take a careful look at the fuse, it might be just cracked rather than frankly blown out.
