Chrysler Repair: 1997 Sebring lxi stalls when put in gear, sebring lxi, code translator

Question
hello,
the vehicle turns on fine, but when you shift to either drive or reverse it gives a couple of pulls and stalls. now if i turn the vehicle on and put it on neutral, and while on neutral i bring up the rpm by giving it gas and at the same time shifting it to drive or reverse the car takes off fine, and runs fine until i come to a complete stop.

Answer
Hi Juan,
I suspect the automatic idle speed motor but I would not advise you to do anything until you question the engine controller memory to reveal if it has stored any fault codes that would specifically tell us where to look.
Try your ignition key: "on-off-on-off-on and leave on" doing that in 5 seconds or less elapsed time. The check engine light will remain "on". Watch for it to begin to flash, pause, flash, etc. Count the number of flashes before each pause. Then repeat to assure you have an accurate set of counts. Then group the counts in pairs in the order that they appeared to form 2-digit numbers which are the fault codes. The last code will always be 55 which is the code for "end of readout". Then go to www.allpar.com/fix/codes.html for a code translator. If the check engine light doesn't work this way, they take the car to an Autozone parts store where they will use a code reader to get the code numbers for free, or go to an independent garage where you can get a readout for under $40. Then write back with the numbers and we'll go from there. Also tell me if you have the 2.5L V-6 or not.
