Chrysler Repair: 1996 Chryster t & C LXi - Speedometer Fluctuates and wont change gears, chevy dealership, chryster

The speedometer fluctuates like crazy and will not change gears.  When it first started, you could shut the van off and restart and it would work fine.  Chevy dealership said they fixed it, stating that it was the wiring harness.  It worked for about 2 weeks and went back to the same old thing.  Later on it got worse and once the car was warmed up it would work. Then it got to where that did not work.  I had a speed sensor (input & output) put on a week ago, it worked great for 2 days and now I cannot drive it. Even when the speedometer would not work it would at least start working correctly within 1 or 2 minutes and change gears and do fine.  You had to stay about 20-25 MPH until it would finally work and change gears and worked like it should, but not now.  I cannot drive it over 20-25 MPH at all.  It use to at least work correctly after a little while, but not anymore.  Why would it work after being repaired 2 separate ways then stop working?

I would suggest that you return to the shops (or shop) which diagnosed the wiring harness/output speed sensor fault and supposedly repaired the situation. It is clear that for some reason the pulsing signal from the output speed sensor is not being reliably received at the transmission or body computer, or both. The signal is digitized at the transmission computer and then sent to body computer for use by the dash display and the trans computer also uses the signal to control the gear shifting in association with the powertrain computer. I don't know if it is that the new sensor is bad, the wiring from it to the tcm, or the digital data bus which distributes the information, is the reason for what is happening but a shop that has a Diagnostic Readout Box III made by Chrysler (or equivalent) and a person with knowledge and manuals should be able to figure out which of the three possiblilies is the cause. It has to be one of those reasons.
