Chrysler Repair: Dinging when the car is off, car dings, infinite resistance

Question
Well, I just replaced the battery and now my car dings when the car is off. My car is a 96 Concorde.

Answer
Hi Hawke,
Do you have an owner's manual that might tell you all the possible "dinging" causes? I can't think of any system that causes dinging when the key is removed from the ignition switch other than the "ignition key in ignition switch" warning which should only start when the driver's door is opened and then stop when you close the driver's door. If that is how it is behaving then I suspect that the little electrical switch at the ignition lock cylinder is stuck in the wrong position. You could check whether pin 24 of the 24-pin black plug of the body control module (on the rear side of the fuse block under the dash) is changing from grounded (0 resistance) to infinite resistance to ground when you insert and remove the key.
The other thing would be to disconnect the - post clamp of the battery for a half an hour and see if that resets the problem when you hook it up again.
